About Me
Hi! I am Dr. Tamar L. Goulet. When people ask me what I do, I tell them that I am paid to think. I love thinking, investigating, and challenging existing paradigms.
I am a marine biologist who works on coral reefs. I became a certified diver in 1988. At that time, there was no female dive gear, let alone any equipment with pink on it. Dive gear came in various shades of black. Dive computers did not exist. If you encountered problems with your air supply from your tank, and you needed air underwater, you had to persuade your dive buddy to share their regulator since a second stage (a spare regulator) was not part of the plan. A lot has changed since 1988, including coral reefs themselves. With a 30-year perspective, I have seen the detrimental effects of global climate change.
I am, however, not ancient and very much alive. My work has taken me all over the world and introduced me to amazing people. With my students, we continue to investigate multiple and forever changing questions. Please contact me if you have any questions or comments about our interests and our work.
